NewsRescue– Following the news of the arrest of “above-the-law,” terrorist leader, Dokubo Asari in neighboring Benin Republic, Nigerians have expressed mixed reactions, most happy and some expectant of his “big-bros,” the President to facilitate his release soon.
The report of his arrest as carried on SaharaReporters:
The leader of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, was today arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
A statement by his lawyer, Festus Keyamo, said Dokubo was picked up by the police between 1:00pm and 2:00pm around the Lubeleyi roundabout, and taken to an unknown destination.
The wealthy former militant reportedly opened a private university in the Benin Republic, the King Amachree African University that is preparing to start degree-awarding programmes in 2014.
“We want to emphasise that Alhaji Dokubo-Asari carries on legitimate business and has been living partly in Benin Republic for many years now,” Keyamo said in his statement. “In fact, he owns houses, schools and an academy in that country. All these places have been searched as at this evening and nothing incriminating was found.”
Reacting to his arrest,

Mujahid Dokubo Asari, who can still legally be regarded as a terrorist because he did not sign the amnesty deal with the Nigerian government, is known for holding Nigerians to ransom, with all kinds of open bloody threats.
His support by the current president has provided him unprecedented impunity.
Dokubo is also known for amassing wealth with direct money in millions of dollars being paid him directly from the government for so-called security operations, whereas, the Niger Delta region is at its highest level of insecurity with oil theft, spilling and pollution at unprecedented levels, continuing to kill the residents of the area with toxic poisoning and permanently polluting the land.
Dokubo calls Benin republic his second home. It is left to see what the charges are and what will be the outcome of his arrest.
