The Hausa ethnic group has never ruled the nation. A group ‘marginalized’ as are most of 516 ethnic groups in Nigeria, popularly attributed Hausa rule has actually been Fulani only.
Hausa’s are about 20.6% of Nigeria’s population, the second largest group after Yoruba’s (21%). The Fulani are about 9%. Usually, Hausa and Fulani are combined to create a largest block of 29%. The Igbo are about 18%, followed by the Ijaw, 10% and Kanuri, 4%.
