The All Progressives Congress in Borno deem in very urgent and critical to alert members of the Nigerian public as well as visiting International election observers that a former Governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff is currently holding meetings believed to aim at inflicting violence that will lead to serious disruptions of the Saturday Presidential and National Assembly Elections.
The APC called on security agencies to be on red alert and should place Sheriff under close watch as any violence in Maiduguri should be blamed on him. Chairman of the APC in the State, Ali Bukar Dalori said in a statement issued on Thursday in Maiduguri that Sheriff had been holding series of meetings mainly with suspicious political thugs, some of who might have been imported into Borno from other parts of the country.
The APC highly suspects that the entire plot is to unleash large scale violence in different parts of Maiduguri with the sole aim of disrupting the elections so that Sheriff will safe his face from shame given very clear indications that the PDP doesn’t stand the slightest chance of gaining the votes it requires for the Presidential elections as well as winning any elective office in the National Assembly positions.
We have good reasons to believe that Sheriff is at it again because he has since arrival on Wednesday, been holding meetings with mainly thugs which he is known for haven been famously credited with creating the ECOMOG violent militia that openly killed rival members in different parts of Borno State while Sheriff was Governor from 2003 to 2011.
As a product of Sheriff’s plots, there was a violent clash between rival members of the PDP aligned to the two contenders for the PDP Governorship slot, Alhaji Gambo Lawan, recently declared by the court as valid candidate and Alhaji Mohammed Imam, anointed by Sheriff and endorsed as candidate before his removal by a Federal High Court one week ago.
We call on security agencies to closely. Watch Sheriff to stop his planned evil on Borno. The security agencies have worked hard to reclaim and sustain peace they should therefore not allow Sheriff take the State back to the days of lawlessness which he created as Governor and bequeathed to the APC Government.
We call on all APC supporters and every good citizen of Borno State to shun all forms of violence and should resist being provoked to engage in violence because it is the APC that stand to gain when peaceful, free and fair elections are held in the State.
We rely on God and our tremendous goodwill as the party has been on ground working closely with its people as against Abuja politicians that visit to force themselves on unwilling Borno people “.
