Elon Musk warned against the perils of a single global authority during his address at the World authority Summit on Wednesday.
“Seemed like the right venue,” Musk tweeted later in response to a video of his remarks.
Beginning at 9:00 p.m. PT, the CEOs of Twitter, SpaceX, and Tesla spoke via video link at the Dubai-based conference. The yearly event, which is “dedicated to shaping the future of governments,” focuses on leveraging technology to tackle problems that humanity faces.
Musk used his conference appearance to criticise the concept of a single political power.
“I know it’s called the World Government Summit, but I think we should be concerned about becoming too much of a unified world government,” he remarked.
“We want to avoid creating a civilizational risk by having, frankly — and this may sound strange — too much government cooperation.”
The world’s second-richest person said that the rise and fall of individual civilizations “hasn’t meant the doom of humanity as a whole” since they were not completely interconnected.
“While Rome was falling, Islam was rising,” Musk remarked, referring to technological and scientific developments at the period.
Musk stated that the globe requires “some amount of civilizational diversity such that if something does go wrong with some part of civilization, the whole thing doesn’t collapse and humanity keeps moving forward.”
