The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has resolved to continue its one month-old-strike amidst the outbreak of Ebola virus in the country and the spread of the epidemic in West Africa.
The association made the statement in the early hours of today after rising from an all-night extensive deliberation at her Emergency Delegates Meeting.
In a message posted on the association’s official Twitter account, NMA asserts that until the Federal Government yield to its demands, the strike will continue and warned against misinformation from unauthorized sources.
“It was evident that contrary to insinuation from various quarters, the demands made are yet to be met and issues not adequately addressed,” NMA wrote.
The association however affirmed that its pressing demand is not to undermine the health sector but also exploring alternatives to see to the end of the one month-old-strike.
“The NMA is open to further negotiation and will not do anything that will compromise the sanity of the Nigerian Health Sector now or in the future,” NMA added.
It could be recalled that the NMA embarked on a nationwide industrial action on July 1 to press home its demands for certain changes in the health care sector.
