Campaign Posters Of Drug Baron Buruji Kashamu Flood Ogun State

Indicted drug baron, Buruji Kashamu, a Chieftain of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), may soon declare interest to run as the flag bearer of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ogun State gubernatorial election as his campaign posters flood the state.

Kashamu, who is Chairman, Organization and Mobilization Committee of the PDP in the South West, had earlier said he has nothing to do with the posters.

The Chieftain of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Buruji Kashamu, is facing a drug smuggling case in the United States and effort to get it quash through the use of Presidential power and force including document forgery as well as political pressure failed.

Report gathered on Sahara Reporters news page indicates that Mr. Kashamu and 14 others were, 1998, charged by a federal grand jury for their alleged involvement in an international conspiracy to smuggle heroin into the US. But the politician, a major campaigner for President Goodluck Jonathan in the South West, allegedly fled to the U.K. where repeated efforts by the U.S. to extradite him failed, before he returned to Nigeria.

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, in his letter in December 2013, to President Goodluck warned him of Buruji, and described the Chieftain as “a certified unashamed criminal.”

Obasanjo wrote: “Putting a certified unashamed criminal wanted abroad to face justice and who has greatly contributed to corruption within the judiciary on a high profile of politics as you and your aides have done with the man you enthrone as PDP Zonal leader in the South-West is the height of disservice to this country politically and height of insult to the people of South-West in general and members of PDP in that zone in particular.”
