Gunmen suspected to be members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect struck at Ngoshe and Kaigamari villages in Gwoza and Konduga Local Government Areas of Borno State over the weekend, killing no less than 38 villagers.

A source told DailyPost that the insurgents, who laid siege at the villages. also set ablaze many houses, shops and telecommunication masts.

Ngoshe is a border town between Nigeria and Cameroon while Kaigamari, a remote settlement in Konduga, has come under series of attack from the insurgents.

DailyPost learnt that the terrorists, who armed themselves with Improvised Explosive Devices, petrol Bombs, AK 47 rifles and rocket propelled Launchers (RPGs) invaded Ngoshe at about 10 pm on Saturday and opened fire on sleeping residents, which led to death of 30 villagers while several others sustained injuries.

Mallam Usman Jidda, a survivor of the Ngoshe attack said “I thank God for sparing my life and members of my family as we were able to escape the deadly attack, we are now settling with one of my relatives in Gwoza council area.

“I can confirm to you that more than 30 people were killed by the insurgents in Ngoshe, apart from the destruction of property worth millions of naira”.

In the Kaigamari attack, 8 people were killed when insurgents invaded the village.

Many of the residents are now said to be taking refuse in Maiduguri after they fled their homes.
