Boko Haram gunmen on Tuesday ambushed troops of the Nigeria army moving along the dangerous Maiduguri-Biu highway and killed one soldier, security sources said.
The gunmen, in what appeared a reprisal attack for the killing of their members during the Sunday night encounter in Damboa, had laid in ambush at a spot not far from Damboa and opened fire on unsuspecting solders.
“Our troops were on their way to Damboa this morning when the insurgents ambushed them. We lost one soldier,” the source said.
A top security personnel confirmed the attack but declined being quoted in this report.
