(CNN) — French authorities expressed solidarity with Roman Polanski’s family Monday after authorities arrested the filmmaker on a 1970s sexual-offense charge involving a 13-year-old girl.

A former US soldier convicted of raping a 14-year-old Iraqi girl and killing her and her family, has been jailed for life,
after a jury failed to agree on a death sentence.
